Ways to use bingo in class
- Definition bingo: put vocabulary words on the cards and read out definitions. Students must match meaning to word.
- Maths bingo: use number cards and call sums (“7 × 8”) instead of numbers.
- Language bingo: cards in the target language, calls in English.
For parties, a 3×3 card makes quick games for young children; 5×5 with a free centre is the classic format for adults.
Questions people ask
Is every bingo card different?
Yes. Each card is an independent random draw from your list (or from the numbers), so two cards are only the same by extreme coincidence with small word lists. Use at least 2× as many words as squares for good variety.
How does classic 75-ball bingo work?
Each column draws from its own range: B 1–15, I 16–30, N 31–45, G 46–60, O 61–75. The centre square is free. The caller draws numbers until someone completes a line.
How many words do I need for word bingo?
At least 24 for a 5×5 card with a free centre, 8 for 3×3 and 15 for 4×4. More words mean more variety between cards and a longer game.
How do I run the game?
Print the caller sheet too: it lists every word or number, so you can cut them into slips and draw from a hat, or tick them off as you call them.
How many cards can I print?
Up to 60 at a time, two per printed page. That covers a class or a big party.
